Profoto A10 - The flash for life
The Profoto system flashes are compact external flashes and accommodate the electronics, the power supply, sensors, the flash tube and the condenser in their relatively small housing. As Profoto system flashes, they fit all Profoto systems, but may also fit other brands, which must be checked in each individual case or can be found in the product description (see below for compatibility of the A10).
Which Profoto system flashes are suitable for whom?
With its equipment, the manufacturer Profoto basically covers the needs of pure amateurs, ambitious amateur photographers and professionals. The general rule is: the functions and quality of the Profoto system flashes increase with the price. Price-intensive models perform significantly more and are suitable for recordings with the highest requirements, such as sports (with very fast movements) and in extremely unfavorable lighting conditions. Additional functions are, for example, focusing in the dark using the AF auxiliary light, remote control (slave), strobe and short-term synchronization. Some Profoto system flashes are also able to control other flashes themselves.
The Profoto A10 system flash
With the A10, Profoto has designed a high-end system flash that, with its round flash head, delivers natural light with a gentle fall-off. Handling is easy due to the large control panel, the advantages include the super-fast flash cycle time and the powerful battery required for this. The Profoto A10 is equipped with the latest Bluetooth technology from the manufacturer, AirX, so that smartphone photos can also be taken in the highest quality. Of course, this system flash also proves its worth with all other cameras: the lighting design is optimal. The A10 follows the A1X and has the same power of 76Ws. The integrated AirX technology is a new feature created especially for smartphone photography. This includes the built-in Bluetooth module, which allows the flash to be universally connected to all modern smartphones. The round flash head was deliberately designed in this way because, unlike traditional rectangular flashes, this shape makes the light fall-off smoother and more natural, which is also clearly visible at the edges of the image. If necessary, the lighting angle can be adjusted by turning the zoom ring. The manufacturer offers numerous light shapers for creative light modeling, which we also have in our range. They can be attached to the flash head with magnetic brackets. With the A10, an integrated LED modeling light supports lighting design. In this case, the Profoto developers paid attention to compatibility, because the A10 wirelessly fits camera systems from Nikon, Canon, Sony and Fujifilm. This is taken care of by the integrated AirTTL technology: it enables a range of up to 300 m on the 2.4 GHz frequency. Profoto AirTTL, Air and Connect triggers are suitable for the wireless remote control of the A10. The flash can be operated in HSS and TTL mode as well as manually. The latter mode allows the performance to be reduced by up to nine f-stops. With the replaceable lithium-ion battery (A-Mk-II series), the flash achieves 450 firings at maximum power, charging takes around two hours.
