Sometimes you wish to get strong directional light which still can be controlled into the desired direction to get hard, distinctive shadows. In this case you need the honeycombs from the RICHTER series. Honeycombs are grids comprised of square or mostly hexagonal cells - therefore the name ""honeycombs"". They are mounted directly to the reflector or snoot reflector or (in connection with flaps) are fitted in a special holder. Our honeycombs are made of 99,9% aluminium. They are dull mat and coated with a black plastic material (powder coated). This guarantees the optical quality and durability. There are different ""density"" honeycombs, meaning that the size of a singular honeycomb varies. Rule of thumb:The smaller the honeycombs, the harder the light. The size is indicated by a number. The table and drawing below show you the correlation. The bigger the radiant field - the softer and diffused are the shadows. A honeycomb size No. 4 is the ""softest"" of the honeycombs. Now you just need to know two additional things to successfully photograph with honeycombs:
- The bigger the flash capacity, the stronger the contrast of the shadows
- The closer you are to the model, the narrower the shadow.
Please consult us! We will be happy to share our knowledge with you, giving you then the opportunity to photograph successfully in your own studio!
The luminous circle of the honeycombs depends on many factors such as distance, capacity of the studio flash lights, etc. To give you an idea, the approximate luminous circle at 2 meters distance.
